Refacing vs. Replacing Kitchen Cabinets
By BreezeMaxWeb, April 6, 2021
If your cabinets are scratched or worn out, you can choose between two options, including cabinet refacing or a cabinet replacement. Both options are great, and the main difference is that refaced cabinets will appear new even though the boxes and layout will remain the same, whereas replacing your cabinets entirely will provide you with a completely new appearance and layout.
Kitchen Cabinet Refacing
There are two major components to cabinet refacing, including the installation of new drawer fronts and doors and the veneering of the cabinet boxes. New hardware is also installed in the process, and the combination of these elements will provide your kitchen with a whole new look. If you decide to replace your cabinets, the existing ones will be completely removed, and brand-new ones will be installed. Refacing your cabinets does cost less than a replacement, but there are not many companies who specialize in this task and doing it yourself is very hard because veneering requires skill and special techniques. Replacing cabinets on your own is difficult as well, but there are a ton of companies who can do this for you.
Kitchen Cabinet Replacement
If you are planning on remodelling your kitchen, replacing your cabinets is the better idea. This is also true if your cabinet boxes are damaged and in very poor shape. If your cabinet boxes are in decent condition, but you would like to elevate their appearance, you can proceed with cabinet refacing, which is more affordable. Both options are popular for different reasons, and refacing is a cost-effective option, which is why many homeowners gravitate towards it. It allows you to keep your current layout while providing you with a brand-new look, so it’s great if you’re looking to improve the appearance of your kitchen. Replacing your cabinets will definitely change the appearance of your kitchen because you will be changing it entirely and installing new cabinetry. It is more expensive to do this because everything is new, so there is more labour involved, and professional contractors will have to complete the job because the cabinets must be installed properly.
If you’re not sure which option is best, assess the condition of your cabinets, as this will help with your decision. There are other aspects you should consider as well, including cost and whether you like your current kitchen layout. If you do, and your cabinet boxes are in solid shape, cabinet refacing is recommended. If, however, you are constructing a new house or changing your kitchen layout, cabinet replacement would be the better choice. This would also be a better option if your cabinet boxes and drawers are in bad shape or if you are planning a whole kitchen remodel.
